Initially, what we now call Halloween, was called Samhain, a Celtic holiday celebrated 2,000 years ago. It was celebrated at the end of the Celtic calendar year and the beginning of a cold and dark winter. It was considered to be a time when ghosts of the dead roamed the earth at night.
